  1. Bah, humbug. Lecture gets a bad rap.

  2. I know, I feel like they preach that no one should ever lecture, but I have always been engaged by a good lecture. I think their point is that not everyone loves that style, and they assume we are going to use it anyway, so they are giving us ideas to mix it up. But I'm with you, it gets a bad rap, but it has always stimulated my thoughts.

  3. That is a loaded question. I agree with you that lectures can be effective ways of teaching. But when I compare the good and the bad lectures, for me at least, the bad lectures far out way the good ones. But I still say lecture if that is your passion. But make sure it is interesting. I like to think of teaching like performing. You have to project your ideas through varied physical dynamics to engage the students and also make sure the information is interesting and relevant.

  4. Bouncing of Camille's point, the lecture needs to be dynamic. You can add that through your use of technology throughout the lecture. (Visuals, utube videos, power point, prezi)

  5. Thank you all for your comments. My goal was to address the chapter 3 concept of teaching to every student as individuals, while including the whole class. But I feel that we went off on a nice tangent. I like a good lecture for a bit, but it does need to be engaging, and we always need to spice it up.

  6. Hmm, that's a hard question, but, it's the best question, the ONLY real question, for teachers. I think you just have to design the best lessons you can come up with, keeping in mind that you need to vary instruction and try to appeal to all the learning styles of your students.
